Pakleni islands
Pakleni or Paklinski are a chain of 16 islands located off the southwest coast of the isle of Hvar. Because of its beauty Pakleni archipelago was proclaimed protected nature park. Often called Hell’s Islands (Pakleni – Hellish), the name comes from the word “paklina” which means “tar,” a type of resin harvested on these islands and used to coat ships. Pakleni islands are a very famous attraction for sailors, nature lovers and young people in search of sea, sun and abundant nightlife. This beautiful unspoilt piece of nature will enchant anyone who sees it. The legend says that the islands were created as a result of a secret love between Poseidon and a nymph.
The main island Sveti Klement has three settlements: Palmižana, Momica Polje and Vlaka. Palmizana bay is the most famous bay of the archipelago. Almost 200 years ago, Matteo Meneghello bought an enormous real estate on the island, creating through the years fabulous gardens, Palmizana Palace and a peaceful place where to relax and forget about the rest of the world.
Marinkovac is one of the Pakleni’s more visited islands with its famous Stipanska bay, which is home to some of the hottest and richest nightlife on the Adriatic. Just as other Pakleni islands, Marinkovac is a place where you can find fantastic beaches, hidden bays, swim in crystal clear sea and relax under dreamlike pine trees. Although a few years ago on the island there was no electricity and water, today larger islands have 5-star service. There is a beach volleyball court, diving school, cocktail bar with a pool where you can chill out after sunbathing on the beach and a few restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Dalmatian cuisine. After the sunset, Stipanska bay becomes the Mecca of nightlife where you can party all night long to the beats of world’s famous DJs.
If you are looking for pristine nature and tranquility, then you should visit Jerolim island. CNN named its beach as top naturist beach in 2011. On one side of the island you can find Amo beach with bar and restaurant, but then on the other side, just 40 meters away there is one of the most chilled places in Croatia. Taxi boat service is the best way to reach the island.
