Taxi Services in Croatia

Taxi service in Croatia is very different in every town, or place. For example Rijeka has cheapest, while Dubrovnik has the most expensive taxi service. Difference is in few kuna per kilometer. Best thing to do is to arrange transportation in advance, and ask for price. That way taxi drivers will always give You cheapest service, while You know that there is taxi waiting just for You in front of airport or ferry boat. There are no many taxi cars around, so can happen that You don’t get Yours in time, and then You must wait sometimes few hours to get another one. There will always be awailable taxi cars at major airoports and ferry ports, but that’s not situtation on islands. If Your trip is longer than 40 kilometers You should discuss the price with driver. Taxi drivers are comunicative, and can speak at least one foreign language (english). During Your trip, You can arrange return drive, or a short excursion. That way You can arrange Your time as You want and You don’t depend on other people. Some of the taxis are mini vans, that can take 8 persons, so if the price is too expensive, You can always split the price with some other people. Taxi service is the best transportation service, because they will get You to your destination in shortest time, and there is no waiting on terminals in rush. Taxi drivers know all the fastest roads, and in the same time they are ready to answer at any of Your questions. But be sure that taxi meter is turned on during the ride if You didn’t arrange the price in advance. Many companies have differnet tariffs. For example, one taxi company can have different price for working days, and weekends or holidays, also it’s very often that taxi service is more expensive during the night. Important thing is not to drive with people that offer you taxi service but are not taxi cars. That is illegal, and you can get fined because of it.

Example of taxi price varies, here is example for popular Dalmatian island of Brac

On island Brač, there are two different taxi services. One is situated in Bol (cheaper), the other one in ferry port Supetar. Price per kilometar is 9 kuna (10 kuna during weekends and holidays) with taxi from Bol, and 10 kuna (13 kuna during weekend and holidays) with taxi from Supetar. So it’s much better for You to arrange transportation with company from Bol. They can also wait for You at the major airports, same as at the airport Brač. One of the cheapest taxi companies, with long tradition in transportation is Taxi Mia.
