Sibenik – A Unique Park in the Historical City Centre

This medieval monastery garden has been open or the tourist for the last two years after its renovation but still it attracts same number of people with similar curiosity. This garden was neglected for over a millennium when a well known landscape artist Dragutin initiated renovation of this garden. For this initiative he was awarded the millennium Flora award in the year 2000 in Japan. This garden is regarded to be a rare monument and unique in entire Croatia and also among few parts of Europe. This garden is designed in the medieval layout and a well in the centre. Old scented roses and exotic bushes encloses this unique garden. Decorative thymes add to the beauty of this garden.
It’s said that famous architect Juraj Dalmatican gave the capers which are preserved in this garden to Sibernik. In this garden from time to time numerous educational programs are organized for visitors and school children. This garden is open for both the natives and the tourist. Since this garden is a monastery therefore Gospina Spilija and St. Lawrence church are open for visitors. Restaurants, café, and shops are also available for visitors. The timimngs of the garden are different in summers and different in winters. In summers it is open from 8am to 11 pm but in winters it is open only from 9am to 4pm.
Since National Parks like Krka and Kornati are located quite close to this garden therefore tourists find it more approachable. Other historical monuments like St Jacob cathedral which is protected by UNESCO is also located at close proximity to this garden. Its construction which is bold with frames and stones plate also makes it unique. Trefoil shaped front, 74 realist portraits and amazing architecture gives it some singularities unlike others.
