Lokrum is a beautiful little island that keeps the doors to its past and present always open, capturing the attention of tourists and everyone visiting Dubrovnik. In 1976, it was proclaimed a national treasure, ’’A Special Reserve of Forest Vegetation’’ on the basis of its unique flora, where cca 400 plant species have already been recorded. In 1979, it fell under UNESCO protection. The Botanical Garden and the Benedictine Monastery are only segments of the cultural sights offered by this island.
