On the Island of Brac is situated the most beautiful and mesmerizing beach of the world, as stated by the British Daily Telegraph. The beach Zlatni rat in Bol is regarded to be among the most amazing and beautiful beaches of the Europe. A publisher of the tourist guide named Lonely Planet also ranked Zlatni Beach among the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. This mesmerizing beach, located west Bol on the Mid Dalmatian Island of Brac. Its positioning under the St. Vid’s Mountain which is the highest mountain of Adriatic Islands gives it a spectacular view.
This exquisite and enticing beach is of approximately a kilometer long and is the most engaging place of Croatian Adriatic coast. The shape which looks like of a triangle astonishes people with its spectacular beauty. The most magnetizing thing of this beach is its ability to change its shape with the change in the direction of wind and currents. This is why it is the best place for wind surfing in the entire world and this becomes the reason for it being the host of numerous water sports events. The oak and pine tree forests add to the natural beauty. The surrounding luxurious apartments, resorts and hotels make this place worth residing.

The Blue Flag, an international label signifying a clean environment and a high level of development and facilities, has been awarded to 135 locations in Croatia: 115 beaches and 20 marinas. Interestingly, apart from seaside beaches, blue flags are fluttering on seven continental beaches this year: the Aquacity beach near Varaždin and six beaches of the sports and recreational centre Jarun in Zagreb.
The well-known criteria for awarding the Blue Flag are high water quality, the regular measurement of the water quality and availability of data pertaining to it, the existence of rules of conduct and educational programs, the safety of swimmers and insurance of measures aimed at preventing or reacting to cases of ecological disasters. The beaches also need to have access to drinking water, and at least one beach within a city or municipality needs to ensure access to the beach and sanitation facilities for the disabled.
Criteria for awarding the Blue Flag to marinas have been specially devised, and they include protection of the environment, high-level development and facilities, educational programs and sanitation facilities.
The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the Copenhagen- based independent non-profit organisation Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The coordinator for Croatia is the association ‘Lijepa Naša’.

Dubrovnik – the Ideal Location for the World’s Best Divers

On July 11th, Dubrovnik, the pearl of the Adriatic and one of the world’s most beautiful cities, hosted the world’s best divers, who tested their skills and talent at the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series 2009 competition. The fact that only incredible natural and urban locations are chosen as venues for this world-class event, and Dubrovnik and its fortress Lovrijenac indubitably belong to this circle of destinations, only adds to the divers’ excitement. Dubrovnik already was host to this event nine years ago. This year, divers, including the nine-time world champion Orlando Duque, are facing a 26-metre dive. When diving, divers only have seconds to decide which diving elements to put together, depending on the spatial factors and weather at hand. Never before did athletes have to dive eight times in a row from such a high cliff, which means that this year’s championship and its participants will push this sport to its very limits and set new standards. Only 30 to 40 athletes in the entire world have the capacity to do this exclusive and extreme sport.
12 great divers from nine countries are taking part in this year’s series, which, apart from Dubrovnik, is held in destinations in France, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland and Greece. To them and all extreme sports enthusiasts, Dubrovnik will prove an interesting and attractive host, and the beauties of this city under UNESCO
protection an ideal background.

The town of Nin, a tourist center very near to Zadar, will with its healing mud baths, which have attracted tourists for years, soon become the location of a great project, which will commence at the end of this year. The 60 million Euros investment has been taken over by the Zadar company Tankerska plovidba from Norwegian investors. The investors announce that the sports recreational center ‘Ninsko blato’, will cover over 16 hectares of land in Nin and Privlaka, on an area that has been well known for its healing mud for centuries. The Nin mud was used in Roman times to heal rheumatic, skin and spinal illnesses. It is the largest site of healing mud in Europe. As part of the project, two hotels with an overall accommodation capacity of 700 beds is planned. The hotels will also feature luxury suites, a sports and recreational center and various gyms. A wharf for smaller boats, several restaurants, shops, indoor and outdoor pool and wellness center are also planned. The Ninsko blato project is one of the largest greenfield investments in Croatia.

The Aquacity beach, enjoyed by the citizens of Varaždin and its visitors every summer, is even more beautiful and richer in facilities than before, and will be of interest to persons with special needs, featuring a multi-sensory park. The City of Varaždin, owner of Aquacity, has for the past couple of years been proclaimed the most developed continental beach in Croatia by the Croatian National Tourist Board. The centre’s development strategy takes into account the needs of everyone, including those with special needs.
Last year, the first phase of the reconstruction was completed, and included a foot path and wheelchair ramp to gain access to the water. Also, a new beach volleyball court has been built, which can easily be turned into a beach football pitch. New benches and swings for the disabled, two table tennis tables and bowling field were also part of the renovations. The footpath goes all the way to an island over a newly built wooden bridge. Along it, there are ten fishing spots, also adjusted for the disabled.
The beach now also features a ten-hole miniature golf court. However, the biggest novelty is the multi-sensory park, adjusted for the blind and persons with impaired sight. Through interaction with plants, visitors can attain more independence and a view of the world. The park is designed to stimulate their senses, touch, taste, smell and hearing, and the plants have been chosen for their characteristics so as to make their recognition easier.

Croatia’s beaches come in a variety of forms, from rocky to pebble, sometimes sandy and concrete (sometimes called a pier, but if you can lie on it in the sun I say it counts).

Because of the relative abrasiveness of Croatia’s beaches, bringing sandals or water shoes is a great idea for an independent traveler trying to enjoy the sun and sea. Also, many beaches are a hike from the nearest bus-stop, parking lot, or boat dock, so real shoes aren’t a bad choice either.

Zlatni rat Beach

The most popular beach in Croatia is Zlatni rat, on the island of Brac. Translated literally, Zlatni rat means the “golden cape” and the beach extends from a grove of trees straight out into the ocean. The peninsula is packed with people in the summer both who have made the day-trip from nearby Split, or descended from one of the many nearby resorts.
The calm water on the lee-side of the spit is great for paddling, windsurfing or kiteboarding, and the spit is big enough that there is always room for one more beach towel even on the busiest days.

One of the longer stretch of beaches lies near Brela, just south of Split. Brela’s beaches are nearly six kilometers of picturesque white pebbles surrounded by idyllic fig trees, pine stands and olive groves descending into Mediterranean perfection. Far from getting away from it all, nearby Punta rata beach has lifeguards, a doctor on duty, facilities for the disabled, a sports complex and catering. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, but who would need to leave?

Brijuni island was the getaway for European aristocracy in the early 20th century, and it has maintained a kind of elite atmosphere since then. Did I say elite? Sorry, I meant “circus.” Brijuni is full of things like ostriches running loose, donkeys, roman ruins and fossilized dinosaur footprints. The animals are the offspring of the collection of Marshal Tito, who had a summer residence here, and visitors to the main island can observe his elephants and zebras on a tour of the safari park. To visit the beaches you’ll need accommodation at an island hotel or be part of a guided trip to the park.

Krk island is Croatia’s biggest island, with one of its most impressive beaches. Baska is one of Croatia’s few sandy beaches and it is often packed with Austrians and Germans on holiday. For another true sand beach, try Malinska, a port town on Kosljun island.
